Tales From the Laundry Basket
For a while, I thought warmer weather would make getting dressed easier.
Fewer layers. Lighter clothes. Shorts and a T-shirt.
Simple.
Except every time the temperature started climbing, my child’s skin seemed to become more uncomfortable too.
The areas that were already prone to eczema and irritation looked angrier. Clothes that seemed perfectly fine on cooler days suddenly weren’t.
And by the end of a warm day, there was often scratching.
I started paying attention to what was happening underneath the clothes
It wasn’t just the temperature outside.
It was the combination of heat, sweat and fabric sitting against sensitive skin for hours at a time.

Shorts on the playground.
Pyjamas through a warm night.

I certainly did.
And I realised that in warmer weather, what touched their skin mattered even more.

I’d always associated softness with comfort.
But suddenly I was thinking about breathability and moisture too.

Nothing complicated.
Just clothes that could handle daycare, playgrounds, naps, warm evenings and everything else a normal day throws at them.
And because there were no internal tags rubbing against their skin, that was one less potential irritation to think about too.
Now warmer weather means something different
As spring arrives and the days start getting warmer, I still think about sunscreen, hats and keeping everyone cool.
But I think about their clothes differently now too.
Because when your child has sensitive skin, eczema or contact dermatitis, summer comfort isn't only about wearing less.
Sometimes it's about choosing better.
Especially the things sitting against their skin all day.
